It seems feasible that the use of PET will continue to grow, but … should this happen at the cost of reducing fossil raw materials? The changing nature and supply/demand balance of the new feedstock for recycling and bio means a change from a global, commoditized and cost-oriented approach to a local, customized, cooperative and value-oriented scenario. The industry needs to solve multiple short-term disruptions and satisfy current end demand, build a strong chain, reinforce its position as the material of choice for multiple existing and new applications, as well as work and defend its current and future alignment with demand patterns for sustainability.
Different factors that were important in the past are critical today and should encourage industry participants to continue to act and implement the right strategy, procurement and commercial approach to meet the current and future challenges of the polyester chain.
So, what does PET need to be successful?
